Welcome to ESL 2007-2008!

I am the ESL teacher for your child this year, and am currently serving 3 Virginia Beach schools daily.  They are:  Windsor Woods ES, King’s Grant ES, and 6th Grade at Larkspur MS.  As you can see, I am on the move every day.

Although I was born and raised in Connecticut, I started my teaching career in 1972, in rural Georgia.  I was a special education teacher there for 1 ½ years before moving to Virginia Beach and the VBCPS school system.  There I taught high school English for 6 years, before taking several years off to have 3 children of my own.   Shortly thereafter, I went back to school to get a master’s degree in English as well as certification in ESL.  I began my ESL teaching in 1991, at Old Dominion University and at a private elementary school.  Although both were wonderful experiences, after two years, I moved back into the Virginia Beach school system – this time as an ESL teacher.  I have been teaching ESL for VBCPS ever since.

As a teacher I have come to appreciate the importance of a strong teacher- home partnership.  Those students whose parents encourage them to study and do well on their homework daily seem to be the ones who succeed the most.  The same is true of those students whose parents keep in touch with their teachers.  Although I go from school to school each day, you can e-mail me through this website at any time.  You can also either call the school or send a note in with your child to give to me.  I will get back to you as soon as possible.

I hope that your child’s school year will be packed with great learning and success.  My goals for your child are twofold:  that your child becomes proficient in English and that he succeeds in his Regular Ed classroom.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.  I will also be inviting you to attend our ESL Parent Information in the next several weeks.  I hope to hear from you as well as meet you in the near future. I look forward to working with you this year to help your child have the most successful school year ever!
